So after last nights exciting win in New York, the Boston Red Sox advance to the ALCS. When the Sox headed to New York, the series was 1 – 1. After game 2, I thought here we go again. Are the Sox going to be eliminated early in the postseason? Check out my Red Sox Playoff Struggles post to read more about Games 1 and 2.
Red Sox v Yankees Postseason – New York
When the Sox headed to New York, the momentum shifted. With the Yankees making Game 1 close and taking Game 2, the pressure was on the Sox.
Clearly, the Sox had other plans. They were ready to show the baseball world, this team was the real deal. And, boy did they do that! For Game 3, Nathan Eovaldi was matched-up against the Yankees ace, Luis Severino.
First and foremost, before the game, the Yankees seemed off. At the same time, there were reports that Severino didn’t seem to know what time the game was slated to begin. Due to this, Severino warmed up late. By the time Severino was lifted from the game, the Sox were already ahead. Final score was 16 – 1.
Red Sox Advance
For Game 4, the pressure was on the Yankees. And, the Yankees were hoping to turn the page. With C.C. Sabathia facing Rick Porcello, the Yankees were hoping to force a Game 5. However, the Sox scored first and by the time Sabathia was pulled; the score was 3 – 0.
By the time Craig Kimbrel came in to close out the game, the score was 4 – 1. Since Kimbrel hasn’t been as good in the second half of the season; this once again became a close game. In essence, I thought the Yankees may win the game and force a Game 5. Luckily, the game ended on a ground out that was reviewed. Final score was 4 – 3. Red Sox Advance to ALCS
So after a scary 9th inning, the Red Sox advance to the American League Conference Series. Though the Sox have been eliminated early in the postseason, this will be their first return to the ALCS since 2013. Since they lost to the Houston Astros last year in the ALDS, this series should provide plenty of excitement for MLB fans.
As we know, the Astros went onto win the World Series in 2017. Equally important, is Alex Cora was the bench coach for last year’s Astros for their championship season. Since Boston has home field advantage throughout the postseason, this series is the best of 7. With the big stage set, the schedule is as follows:
- Saturday, October 13th – Houston will be in Boston – Game is at 8:09 p.m. – Of course, I’m pumped to go to the game.
- On Sunday, October 14th – Houston will be in Boston for Game 2 at 7:09 p.m.
- For Game 3, Boston will be in Houston on Tuesday, October 16th – TBD
- For Game 4, Boston will be in Houston on Wednesday, October 17th – TBD
- If needed, Game 5 will be in Houston on Thursday, October 18th – TBD
- For Game 6 – if needed, will be back in Boston on Saturday, October 20th – TBD
- Finally if needed, Game 7 will be in Boston on Sunday, October 21st – TBD
In my opinion, this series should be a lot of fun. Who will win the ALCS?
