Celebrate Leap Year 2020
Celebrate Leap Year! So, if you’re wondering what makes this non-holiday day unique; not only does it add a day onto our year, but also it is an extra day added to the calendar.
Celebrate Leap Year
Since we have 365 days in a year, the Earth takes longer than that to make its way around the sun. Because of this, every year adds 5 extra hours and if you add this up; it makes sense that one extra day is added to the calendar every four years.
Although there are different theories to this due to the sun isn’t always mathematically correct; however some years we may not have one if the year isn’t able to be divided by 100 and 400. Mmm – you’re wondering, so what happens if it doesn’t? Simply, the best way to understand this is the last two digits must be divided by 4; so 2010 won’t be a leap year.
So, if you were born on February 29th or are thinking of proposing; there are several fun things to know about this day that comes around every four years:
- If you were born on February 29th, you’re sometimes referred to as a leaper or leapling
- However, in many countries, those born on the 29th celebrate their birthday the day before or the day after
- Consequently, frogs are associated with leap year. Indeed, frogs have unbelievable leaping skills; so of course, this makes sense
- Surprisingly, leap years coincide with the United States Presidential election and the Summer Olympics
- Also, February 29th is known as Rare Disease Day
Leap Year Marriage Proposal Traditions
When it comes to a leap year; a woman can propose to a man. However, if the man refuses, he has to buy the woman a gift such as a dress or piece of fabric. And, in Denmark – a man has to give the suitor 12 pairs of gloves.
Since roles have reversed, anything goes. Although times have changed, many consider this tradition old-fashioned. Of course, either sex can propose anytime.
If you looking for a great comedy that depicts a strong woman character; this is the movie to see. Not only does Amy Adams know exactly what she wants, but, also has a zest for life.
Is February 29th Good Luck
Meanwhile, if you were born on this day; does it mean you won’t age until the next Leap Year? Indeed, anyone born on the 29th would most likely celebrate their birthday the day before or the day after. But, it would certainly be great if you didn’t age.
Should you marry or divorce on February 29th? In many countries, it is considered that if you get a divorce; you will never marry again. Although many consider this a myth; it is something to ponder.
Of course, we all sometimes wish for a do-over. Well, this year, you have one extra day of the month. Therefore, make it a good one.
As always, I welcome your comments on how you will celebrate Leap Year.
