This past weekend, my Husband and I attended a dueling piano players show at the Stonewood Tavern in Peabody, Massachusetts.  Friends of my Husband invited us to join them for a night of fun and entertainment.

Dueling Piano Players

Why are dueling piano players shows so much fun?  First, they must have a natural ability to play a lot of different type of music.  Second, the show must be funny.  Also, the Musicians have to tell “spur of the moment” jokes.  Third, a dueling piano player must know a lot of different types of songs.  Since requests are made throughout the performance, the Musician has to get through the song.  While many Musicians may not know the song, they should  carry a lyric book.  Furthermore, the piano player needs to read their audience.  A good dueling piano player should know the genre and era of songs to play.  Moreover, a good dueling piano player will generate tips.

Dueling Piano Players Show Entertainment

Together with the dueling piano players, the show was accompanied by a buffet dinner.   Stonewood Tavern in Peabody, Massachusetts provides dining and entertainment.  Since this was the first time my Husband and I attended a show, we didn’t know what to expect.  As we entered the room, there were two cash bars and a buffet station set up.  Because I am not a fan of buffet style food, I was disappointed.  The food was dry and there wasn’t a lot of choices.

Tables were set up to accompany 10.   Because this was set up buffet style, there was no service.

Dueling Piano Players Show Entertainment

Dueling Pianos International provided the entertainment.  Of course, the audience was part of the entertainment.  The audience requested songs throughout the night.  The audience clapped and sang throughout the performance.  Though I love comedy, singing and music, I found the Piano Players off kilter.  Since they didn’t know some of the songs, their pitch was off.  They floundered throughout the night.   The disappointment of the style of the performers lacked energy for me.  Their lack of pitch throughout the night was tiresome.

In conclusion, new friends made the night a lot of  fun.   Having been to other dueling piano shows in the past, I recommend finding other performers than Dueling Pianos International.  Have you attended a dueling piano show?  Did you enjoy the performance?
