Romper Room was a popular television show in my house growing up. In fact, I remember watching this show often to see what kids were featured on the show.
Romper History
Rompers began as part of a child’s wardrobe. Onesies, overalls, and jumpers were part of most children’s wardrobes from the time they were brought into the world. The romper was the go-to play clothes for children. Women began wearing these as early as the 1950s as beach and leisurewear.
Teenagers embraced the trend instead of wearing skirts, blouses, and dresses. In particular, in the 1970s, we saw the rompers cousin appear in the form of a jumpsuit. Today, the romper and jumpsuit are back in a big way. Designers featured rompers on the runway in various patterns, relaxed silhouettes and eye-catching details.
