No doubt, most people are looking for healthier restaurant food options. When you’re dining out, do you pay attention to the menu? Or, do you order whatever you want?
Healthier Restaurant Food Options
Since most of us spend more money dining out, now is the time to start thinking about what may be good for our figures. In the first place, you’re in charge of what you order. If you like an entrée, but don’t like a side or sauce, speak up. Don’t be afraid to ask your server for a substitution. In my opinion, it is important to speak up. I always ask questions and go over an appetizer or entrée before placing my order.
Meanwhile, the following are a few suggestions I have before placing your order.
- For any entrée or side dish that comes with a sauce, ask for it on the side. Remember Meg Ryan’s character in “When Harry Met Sally“. Indeed, her character was a fan of ordering menu choices with items on the side.
- Ultimately, if a portion size is too big, take home half of your meal. Or, if you’re dining out with other friends, ask someone, if they want to split a meal with you.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for substitutions. If something comes with something unhealthy, ask if it can be substituted for a vegetable or side salad. Above all, most restaurants are willing to accommodate their guests.
- When selecting an appetizer, try to order something that has fruit or vegetables. Also, shrimp cocktail is a healthy choice.
- Try to avoid eating too much bread. If you do have bread, try to limit it to one piece. Or, ask if a restaurant has whole-grain bread available.
- If you’re having dessert, try to order something lighter. For example, a sorbet is an excellent choice. Or, if it is something really goey you crave, I recommend splitting it with someone you’re dining with.
Healthier Restaurant Suggestions
In the first place, choose a restaurant that has a large menu. When you pick a place with a lot of choices, chances are you will have success in selecting something healthier to eat.
So, you know you’re going to dinner. First and foremost, avoid a big breakfast and lunch. For example, eat a few lighter snacks or meals during the day. Visit my Choose Plant Base Healthy Diet post for some suggestions on different types of food to order.
