For many of us, Thanksgiving traditions include watching Macy’s parade, big family reunions and football games.  Also, a long holiday weekend for many of us.  Thanksgiving is a national holiday in both the United States and Canada.

Thanksgiving Meaning

The holiday was originally celebrated as the day of giving harvest the prior year.  Today, Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October in Canada and the fourth Thursday of the month of November in the United States.  Since the meaning of Thanksgiving has gone through various translations, today Thanksgiving is mostly about tradition.

Holiday Preparation

So, the day has arrived.   In the first place, create a holiday table that has your guests mesmerized.  When planning your table, find a centerpiece.  Pick a color palette.  Also consider adding decorative accessories to the table.

Of course, Autumn invites fall color.  Make your guests feel special.  By placing a pumpkin at each place setting, your guests will feel appreciated.  In addition, give your guests something to take home at the end of the meal.

Thanksgiving Traditions

Since many families are spread apart, the day before is one of the busiest travel days of the year.  Moreover many families have drifted apart.  I have a few close friends who spend every Thanksgiving helping provide food at a Food Bank.  Visit my prior food donation post for inspiration.

Many families go out to breakfast early in the morning and head to their city/town football game.   There are serious football rivalries throughout the day.  In addition, many families go out to eat today.

Every year I have my Husband set up our tree the night prior.  Furthermore, I have him gather all the decorations and ornaments in storage.  I put on Macy’s Annual Thanksgiving Parade in the morning and start decorating my home.  As a matter of fact, watching the parade brings me back to days of my youth.

In conclusion, I’m looking forward to spending the day with my Husband and his side of the family.

Happy Thanksgiving!
