MAFS Houston decision day was Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Since only one couple lasted last season; I wasn’t sure how the experts would do in matching this season’s couples. Though the couples were older than prior seasons; this season didn’t seem to go very well for the couples.

So, right from the beginning; I didn’t see most of these couples lasting past decision day. Now, that the 8-week experiment has ended; let’s take a look at each couple’s decision.
- Myrla and Gil – Though many people thought this couple would last; I didn’t think they had enough fundamental values in common. On decision day, Myrla tells the experts, they didn’t do a good job in pairing them together. But, the surprise is she decides she wants to stay married. Gil tells Myrla he is falling in love with her and decides to stay married too.
- Bao and Johnny – Next is Bao and Johnny. Though everyone had high hopes for this couple right from the beginning; it was clear early on, Bao and Johnny didn’t seem well matched. Personally, I felt bad for Bao and thought Johnny wasn’t very nice to her. Johnny said he wanted to stay married and Bao tell him “No”. She wasn’t happy in the marriage and didn’t trust Johnny.
- Brett and Ryan – In my opinion, this couple seemed awkward from the beginning. Before they meet for their decision; Brett learnt that Ryan put himself on a dating site and was already matched with someone she knew. So, Dr. Pepper asked him, “How a good guy goes on a dating app when you both haven’t decided to end the marriage. No surprise, they both decide to get a divorce.
MAFS Houston Decision Day for the Last 2 Couples
- Michaela and Zack – When they meet with the experts, Zack reads a letter to Michaela on how much he has grown in this process and lets her know, “he loves her”. Michaela says she wants to stay married. However, after Zack’s letter and tears; I think he surprises everyone by saying he wants to get a divorce. However, he would like to continue to date after getting a divorce.
- Rachel and Jose – This couple dropped the “L” word fairly quickly; however, things seemed to turn. When Rachel called Jose a different name and he proceeded to double-lock the door. But, they worked through it and both decided they want to stay married.
Are the Experts Right or Wrong in their Matches
For the last several seasons, I think many of the couples that were matched by the experts weren’t well matched. Last season, only one couple stayed married.
In my opinion, I was looking forward to this season-ending.
MAFS Houston Decision Day Reunion Show
Though decision day is over; are the couples that decided to stay married still together?
- First, Kevin talks to Rachel and Jose learn and they broke up for about a month after decision day. Though they are living apart, they are working to get their relationship back on track.
- Second, he speaks to Brett and Ryan. Though Ryan seemed to have regrets on not speaking about his true feelings; they both said they don’t have any problem with one another. But, then Ryan’s sister joins them and tells Kevin, that Brett had something going on with someone else. Consequently, Brett isn’t involved with anyone. Finally, both hope to find their person and get married in the future.
- Myrla and Gil decided to stay married on decision day. However, Gil tells Kevin since decision day; they have not been together. At the end of the day, Myrla didn’t love him and thought he deserved to find someone who would love him.
MAFS Houston Decision Day Reunion Show – Part 2
Next, Kevin speaks to all of the guys and it comes across they all appear to have a good relationship.
- Michaela wants to speak to Kevin without Zack in the room. Next, Zack comes out and tells his story; but Michaela then tries to join him and the show ends. So, Zack leaves but the producers intervene and Zack comes back to finish speaking. The bottom line was this was not a good experience for him and he wants to move on and wishes Michaela the best too.
- Next, Bao and Johnny speak. In my opinion, they both have a much different interpretation of their marriage. Kevin asks what everyone wants to know, “Is Johnny dating another cast member”? He is dating but says it isn’t anyone known. Bao is also dating someone but didn’t provide any additional information.
Kevin gets all the ladies together. Similar to the men getting together earlier; the woman all seem to get along.
The experts haven’t been on the reunion show for quite some time; however this season, they all speak to Kevin. Rachel and Jose speak to the experts and they talked about what issues they faced after decision day and what steps they’re taking to make their marriage stronger.
Next, Myrla and Gil meet next to speak to the experts. The experts told Myrla she is going to really think about what she wants – does she want marriage?
Couples Reunite on Stage
Finally, everyone is together on the big stage. A lot comes out. And, the big story is Johnny and Myrla are best friends. But, does Myrla want more? Throughout the reunion; she was very touchy-feely with Johnny. Gil excuses himself. Michaela follows him out. Both remove their mic and are done.
But, there is more to come. Four months later – without the cameras around; where are they now? Stay tuned!

Didn’t Johnny admit to Bao he had been on over 100 first dates? That should be a red flag. He will never find the perfect woman for himself.

I believe Johnny did tell Bao this early on. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of Johnny from that beginning and I was happy Bao kicked him to the curb. Rumor is she is dating Zack and she deserves someone better.
