Today, August 1st is the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline for the 2016 season. Since many teams have been active prior to the deadline today, it will be interesting to follow today’s results.
Trade Rumors
Due to so many close division races, it will be interesting to see the end results. Because today’s non-waiver trade deadline is 4:00 p.m. today, there has already been a lot of activity. Some trades that have taken place in the last few days surrounded the New York Yankees. Since July the Boston Red Sox has been very active in addressing their needs.
Some popular rumors to follow presently are:
- Chris Sale – Are Chicago White Sox willing to trade? Many teams would love to get this starter. Rumors of many teams that have an interest in acquiring Chris Sale are: Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Texas Rangers.
- Are the Yankees parting ways with Carlos Beltran? Since Beltran’s contract is up at the end of the year, it is likely a deal could be made.
- Who is going to get Catcher, Jonathan Lucroy? A trade has already been vetoed by Lucroy on Cleveland Indians. Both the Red Sox and the Rangers are potential teams that could be in the hunt on Lucroy.
- Where will Jay Bruce go? Since it doesn’t make sense for the Reds to hold onto the outfielder, it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Rumored clubs have been the Dodgers, Giants, Indians, and the Mets.
Baseball Trades Taking Place
While there are many rumors floating, nothing immediate has occurred. I’ve been following the rumors for the last several weeks.
Red Sox
Dave Dombrowski was active the entire month of July. Another interesting point is Dave and many of the teams’ management and operations are with him on the West Coast. In prior years, Theo Epstein and Ben Cherington stayed put in Boston.
I will be following the trade rumors closely until 4:00 p.m. today. Will you be following today’s Major League Baseball Trade deadline?
