So, today is National Loyalty Day. In the first place, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued a proclamation for this day in 1955. Since that time, it has been recognized for the heritage of American Freedom. Additionally, it is a reaffirmation of being loyal to the United States. Meanwhile, every President since Eisenhower has annually declared this day since 1958. No doubt, it will be interesting to see how President Trump honors this day.
Loyalty in the Workplace
Indeed, one of the most important ingredients to any workplace is success of your customers. To achieve success, it is important that your employees are loyal to your business. With this in mind, it is important that you show your employees they are valuable to your company.
Not only is it important for employees to be loyal to a company, but also for employers to respect the effort of their employees. Of course, happiness in the workplace comes from job satisfaction. Many employees feel expendable in their job and that has led to issues in the workplace. Some ways a company can help keep employees loyal are to:
- Acknowledge their birthday or anniversary.
- Also, it is important to try to establish a relationship with your employee. By this I mean, asking them about an upcoming vacation or a recent event they attended.
- If an employee loses a family member, send your condolences by attending the funeral or wake. Lend an ear to your employee during this time of difficulty in their lives.
- When an employee or team at work does a good job, put it up on a bulletin board. Also, you can make a formal announcement. Hence, when an employee feels like their work has been recognized, they feel more valuable to the company.
Loyalty in Relationships
No doubt, loyalty is important to any relationship. Similarly to honesty, loyalty is an integral part of your commitment. Be sure to read my National Honesty Day post. However, before you can be loyal to another person, you have to be honest to yourself. When you’re not honest with your feelings; you’re causing harm to yourself and a partner.
For any relationship to grow, it is integral to have an emotional bond. In my opinion, loyalty is about being honest to your partner. It is important to remember we want to be the best version of ourselves. By putting our best foot forward, we will gain the trust of others and they will know we will be there for them.
Of course, any animal lover knows if you treat a pet well, they will be loyal to you forever. Moreover, dogs are known to bond. With this in mind, treat your animal extra special.
In conclusion, loyalty is forever. Whether you’re in a short-term or long-term relationship, it is important to be truthful regardless of the length of a relationship.
As always, I welcome your comments.
