September is National Preparedness Month. So, if you’re not familiar with this, it is time to get started. First and foremost, let’s make a plan.
National Preparedness Month
In the first place, National Preparedness Month is sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security Ready America’s campaign. Hence, this campaign was designed to help educate Americans to be prepared for natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks.
As a result of the severe hurricane’s that have hit the United States; there is no time like the present to become involved.
How to Prepare for an Emergency
When an emergency hits, be ready for action. With Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma on the country’s mind, it should be on ours’ on how to handle a natural crisis. With this in mind, it is important for all households to have an emergency kit. The First Aid Kit below contains over 105 items.
This emergency kit has all the essentials. But, it also has a Mylar Blanket. Moreover, a Mylar Blanket could save your life. This blanket helps keep your body temperature protected. Indeed, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Another great item to have on hand is the Dietz Lantern Cooker combination lamp. Visit my Dietz Lantern post to learn more about this essential Homeowner product.
In addition to my above recommendations, make sure you keep on top of any events and news in case of a disaster. Be involved in your safety and those nearby. Also, it is important to help your neighbors and community. Be proactive.
National Preparedness Month for your Household
As you make plans for preparation, make sure your family can assist in case of an emergency. By having a network of family, friends and neighbors, you can help with assistance. When building your network, make sure you know areas to go to in case of a disaster. Also, make sure anyone who has a medical condition has access to their medication or equipment.
If someone has a physical disability, make sure there is back-up of equipment they have nearby in case of an emergency. Hence, if you have young children, make sure you think of their safety. Also, if you have a pet, where can you keep your animal safe during an emergency?
In my opinion, it is important to have a discussion with your family in case of an emergency or disaster. To sum up, you may want to fill out the family emergency form.
Conclusion
In summary, make sure you encourage everyone you know to make preparations in case of an emergency.
As always, I welcome your comments.
