Boston Red Sox active trade season is underway for the 2017 baseball season. Since the Red Sox won 93 games in 2016, they are out to win it all in 2017.
MLB Winter Meetings
While the MLB Winter Meetings takes place between December 4th and December 8th, there has already been a lot of baseball activity. At the winter meetings, teams came to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. Additionally, all of the 30 MLB teams get together to talk about the “state of the team” press conference.
After that, teams usually get together to network and hammer out new deals. Furthermore, many trades and free agent signings take place. As a fan, I am always looking forward to hearing about the baseball meetings. Of course, there are always some big trades and signings that come from the meeting. Also with the holiday season upon us, baseball executives are looking to land some big gifts for their team.
Hot Stove Season
With the hot stove season underway, there has already been a lot of activity. Since there has already been a lot of negotiation at the winter meetings, a lot of signings have already taken place. Also, there are rumors floating around on social media. Furthermore, there have already been a lot of baseball moves in the off-season.
Red Sox Active Trade Season
On Tuesday at the winter meetings, the Sox came to terms with first baseman, Mitch Moreland. Also on the same day, the Red Sox acquired right hand set up pitcher, Tyler Thornburg. To get Thornburg, the Sox parted ways with Travis Shaw, prospects, Mauricio Dubon, Josh Pennington and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
In addition, the Sox made a big splash by trading the best farm prospect in baseball, Yoan Moncado to the Chicago White Sox for Chris Sale. Also included in this trade were prospects, Michael Kopech, Victor Diaz and Luis Alexander.
Conclusion
Because prospects aren’t sure things, no one knows what will come of this in the future. In conclusion, will the Red Sox go on to win future pennants and world series championships?
