This past weekend, my Husband surprised me with tickets to attend the Topsfield Fair. Since this is one of America’s oldest fairs, it was a return to revisit the past for me.
Topsfield Fair History
The fair began in 1818. Essex Agricultural Society owns the fair. Furthermore, the initial goals of the society were to promote the interests of agriculture and farmers in Essex County. Initially the fair was hosted at various locations around Essex County. Due to the meetings being held at Cyrus Cummings Tavern in Topsfield, it became fitting that the fair settled in Topsfield.
Hence, the fair began in 1910.
Fair Grounds
Most noteworthy is the size of the fair. Each area has parking. The lots are accessible by shuttle service and is handicap accessible. As well as agriculture, the fair has something for everyone. You can find:
- Cattle
- Horses
- Pumpkins
- Rides
- Games
- Entertainment
- Food (an abundance in selection)
- Gluten free food
- Crafters
- Monster truck show
- Demolition derby
- Parades
KC and the Sunshine Band
Since I’ve always liked the 70’s and 80’s music, my Husband bought KC and the Sunshine Band concert tickets. Together with friends, we had a blast with songs from the past. Moreover, the band performed songs from the 70’s and 80’s. Their mix of slow songs with their popular disco tunes played throughout the concert.
- Boogie Shoes
- That’s the way I like it
- Shake your Booty
- Get down tonight
Music had everyone so happy and getting out of their seats to dance. A friend and I danced the entire night. Most noteworthy were the many younger audience members who seemed to know their music. Of course, KC and the Sunshine Band had me singing all night long.
Conclusion
In essence, this night of revisiting the past and nostalgia has me looking forward to another night similar to this one. Infectious music, fun and people watching were in abundance. Did you attend the Topsfield Fair? What were some of your favorite parts of the fair? Did you see KC and the Sunshine Band? In conclusion, I’m looking forward to the next time KC and the Sunshine Band is in my area.
